Thanks Paul- fixed!

@Alex - I base that point primarily on the pub chat with Peter afterwards.
7 Series sounds like it's easy to migrate to for Zune/Silverlight developers, and Microsoft know they have to compete with both the slickness of iPhone and openness of Android to have a chance of success. They've done wonderful things with the XBox XNA / Live Marketplace to open up development, so I'm hoping they can replicate that on mobile. It also sounds like they're going to have a decent value paid music subscription service.

Microsoft have the financial and marketing grunt to make a decent product gain traction in a dominated market- I remember how I snorted when they announced they were going head-on against PlayStation years back!

Having said that, I wasn't overly keen on the user interface from my brief introduction- ultimately, these things won't dent mainstream if they don't look and work nicely as phones (and, arguably, cameras). All extra functionality must arrive by stealth!

I'm not sure about Windows Phone 7 series sounding promising. I honestly don't think there is room for another closed source mobile phone operating system amongst all the other ones out there. I really don't see how it will gain traction.

Hi James,

Cheers for mentioning App North. It was Jon Nairn from @neverodd on the panel, not Jonathan Williamson.

Ta!
